Day 4 assignment is chaos.  This came to me immediately because my chaos is being pulled in all directions.  What's that all about when everybody wants a piece of you?  All I want to do is play with glass!!!

Powder Sgrafitto Drawing Challenge January 2016 - Day 1

A new year and a new challenge.  This 30 day challenge is using sgrafitto drawing in abstract.  This is hard for me. Being scientifically oriented I don't see the world in abstract but it's cool to try.
Day 1 assignment is to draw comfort.  When I think of comfort I think of the light that shines through the clouds on me. 

Lightbulb

This week's challenge is to do a glass powder sgraffito drawing of a lightbulb.I had a tough time with the roundness of the bulb of all things!  I wish I was faster at this.

In the kiln now :)

A murder of crows awaits...

Wow it's been tooooo long since I've been doing this!  So the challenge for this week is to draw this crow using the powdered glass sgrafitto drawing technique.
 

The challenge is designed to help us learn how to give a drawing form when using black.  I think it might take more than one firing so I went a little light and added in some light gray and medium amber.  I hope it flies hehe...

And now back in for 2nd fire

I'm disappointed that most of the blue got swallowed up :(

Back into the kiln for 3rd fire.  I will add a layer of clear powder.  Maybe if the blue absorbs too much again the clear will make a barrier for the next firing...
