Oh boy, another catch up day!
Day 22 assignment is a Norwegian term for "The indescribable euphoria experienced as you begin to fall in love.  I hope everyone gets to experience this!

Day 23 is Goya - A transporting suspension of disbelief - An "as-if" that feels like reality - such as in good storytelling.

Day 24 Ya'aburnee is Arabic "you bury me".  A beautifully morbid declaration of one's hope that they will die before another person, as it would be too difficult living without them.

Well, life gets in the way of my fun sometimes so I'm catching up yet again...

Day 19_ Jugaad 

Ensuring that things happen even with minimal resources, even if they happen 'by hook or by crook'

So, I took this a bit more literally than I'm supposed to I guess, but visions of ancient Hawaiian fish hooks were in my head so this is what came out.

Day 20_Hiraeth  

A homesickness for somewhere you cannot return to, the nostalgia and the grief for the lost places of your past, places that never were.

 

Day 21: Waldeinsamkeit
The feeling of being alone in the woods, An easy solitude and a connectedness to nature.

Day 17 assignment was to draw Resfeber, a Swedish term "The restless beat of a traveler's heart before the journey begins, a mixture of anxiety and anticipation.  I wonder if the anxiety is over missing the plane like I did my last trip heh heh

Day 18 is a yiddish term, trepverter which is a witty comback you think of only when it is too late to use.  Literally "staircase words"  I'm sure we've all been there!  I jokingly made the statement that once I posted my drawing to the FB group I'd probably come up with a better idea, but that didn't 

happen.  Oh well, it is what it is!                                                                                                             

Powder Sgrafitto Abstract Drawing Day 16 Nunchi

Today's assignment is to draw nunchi in the abstract.  Nunchi is a term that describes the subtle, often unnoticed art of listening and gauging another's mood. An anthropologist named Edward Hall studied and plotted this form of non-verbal communication and created the notion of high- and low-context communication. Nunchi is found to be more common to higher context cultures where meaning in communication is derived from the subtle, tacit actions and reactions of the communicators and not necessarily the words they use. Further, he plotted a continuum of the communication patterns of different cultures which demonstrates that Eastern cultures (Asia, Japan, Korea, Chinese) at the high context, and Western cultures (German-Swiss, German, Scandinavian, North American) are at the low context continuum.  High context relationships are especially important so the manner in which something is said and the attention paid to the audience for those remarks are carefully observed.  Silence can mean that a person is thinking, is showing deference, or is simply taking the time to respond while observing the reactions of the receiver.  A speaker from a high-context culture will understand the importance of that silence and will infer that implicit meanings often speak louder that words.

Today's assignment is to draw contentment in the abstract.  I had to think of this for a while.  I'm most content when basking in the sun after a hike through nature.

I have to say I didn't like today's topic. The loneliness, the heart ache, the fear, the scars.  How does one overcome that experience?  It haunted me all day as I thought about those who suffer at the hands of despicable people.

What I learned from this assignment is about the role emotion plays in one's art.  Those thoughts came through my hands today.
